1.consume vt. 消费;消耗;耗尽,吃完

(use time, energy, goods)/(eat/ drink sth.)

e.g.We consume a lot more than we produce.

5.tend vi. 趋向;易于;照顾 vt.照顾;护理

tend to do sth.(often do sth.; especially sth. that is bad or annoying and to be likely to do it again.)

She tends to be late for meeting.

When I am tired, I tend to make mistakes.

She tends to be wordy.

People tend to think that the problem will never affect them.

tend(to)=look after sb.

I have to tend the wound.

It tends to be cold here in the winter.

tendency n. have a tendency to do sth.

e.g.She is nice but she has a tendency to talk too much.

6.go up: become higher

e.g.The price of cigarettes is going up.

香烟价格在上涨。

7.result in: make sth. happen  造成;导致=cause

result from: to happen because of sth. else that happen first

e.g.The earthquake has resulted in many thousands of deaths.

地震已造成许多人的死亡。

Job losses resulted from changes in production.

失业是由生产革新造成的。

8.oppose: vt.反对;反抗,与(某人)较量(disagree strongly with one’s plan and try to change or present it)

opposed adj. 反对的;对立的

be opposed to 反对……

e.g.I would oppose changing the law.

反对做某事

I am opposed to the idea of moving abroad.

我仍然反对移居国外。

They are totally opposed to abortion. 他们完全反对堕胎。

9.state vt. to formally give a piece of in formation or your opinion, especially by saying it clearly 陈述,说明

e.g.Please state your name and address.

10.range n. 种类;范围

e.g.The price is in the range of 500¥-700¥.

The price of the house is well beyond/out of our range.
