I remember one Thanksgiving when our family had no money and no food. And someone came knocking on (敲) our door. A man was standing there 41 a big box of food. I 42 believe it. My dad asked, “Who are you? Where are you from?”
The stranger answered, “I’m here 43 a friend of yours knows that you’re in need and that you wouldn’t accept direct 44 . So I’ve brought this for you. Have a great Thanksgiving.”
My father said, “No, no, we can’t 45 this.” The stranger replied, “You don’t have a 46 . Then he closed the door and left.
Clearly that experience had a deep 47 on my life. I promised 48 that I would do well 49 someday I could do the same thing for other people. By the time I was 18 I had created my Thanksgiving service. I like to do things naturally. So I would go out and buy 50 food for one or two families. Then I would dress like a delivery boy(快递员), go to the 51 neighborhood and just knock on a door. I always 52 a note that explained my Thanksgiving experience as a kid. The note read, “All that I ask in return(作为报答) is that you 53 yourself so that someday you can do the same thing for 54 .” I have received more from this service every year than I have 55 all the money I’ve ever earned(赚取).
